917 K (Kurzheck or ‘short tail’), Developed by John Wyer’s private Porsche team.
1970 1971 1972The initial 917 was found to be aerodynamically unstable, for the 1970 season John Wyer Automotive were onboard to campaign the car with full factory support. They accelerated the introduction of the Kurzheck, or short-tail, bodywork. This dramatically stabilised the car for the 1970 season, culminating in that famous maiden win for Porsche at Le Mans
