917

Wikipedia

The very first 917 was unveiled to the public at the Geneva International Motor Show on th 12th March 1969. The 917 programme ran from 1969 until 1973. It’s debut was in the 1969 Spa 1000km Jo Siffert qualified it on pole but did not race it due to bad handling due to rear lift. The first win for the 917 was the Zeltweg 1000km in August of 1969, but the car was still an animal to drive, later in the year they made a crude short tail which was immediately faster. It gave Porsche its first overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971.
