The very first 917 was unveiled to the public at the Geneva International Motor Show on th 12th March 1969. The 917 programme ran from 1969 until 1973. It gave Porsche its first overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971.
1973 1974 1975The ultimate evolution of the 917 was produced the 917/30 which produced a whitewash in the Can-Am Championship with Mark Donohoe winning 6 of the 8 rounds, amassing 139 points against the next-best’s 62. Porsche iteself enjoyed a clean sweep that year, its privately entered 917/10s winning the first two races before the 917/30 was operating at full capacity.
